Life is hard for everyone. Sometimes you or your child may need help from someone to find better ways to cope. Individual therapy can be a great option. There are many different styles of individual therapy and finding a therapist that matches the style you are looking for is important. What if you don’t know what you are looking for? Finding someone that you enjoy talking to and makes you want to come back again is a great place to start.

THERAPY DETAILS

Individual therapy varies depending on what you are looking for and what concern you are trying to address. I use a variety of methods from play therapy, sand tray therapy, to talk therapy.

COMMON CONCERNS

Individual therapy is great for those with anxiety to learn to cope with their fears in a safe place. I often use mindfulness strategies to teach new coping skills that you can use anywhere you go. Play therapy, sand tray, and EMDR may also be incorporated to address anxiety.

Depression looks different for everyone. Instead of one size fits all, I use different techniques to meet your individual needs. I may use play therapy, EMDR, sand tray therapy, or mindfulness to work on addressing underlying causes of depression.

Attention- Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a common diagnosis. You may choose to try individual therapy to work on building attention span, increasing decision making ability, and working on focus instead of or in addition to medication. The more your child is able to practice their ability to stop and think the easier it is for them to put those skills in action when they need it most. If you are an adult that still struggles with symptoms of ADHD we can look at trying to find underlying causes that may limit your ability to focus.

Sometimes scary things happen in life from physical, emotional, or sexual abuse to car accidents or medical conditions. When these things happen you might feel like you need extra guidance and support to cope with your own emotions or those of your child. Individual therapy can be a great way to process concerns using play therapy, EMDR, and mindfulness practices.

Have you changed jobs recently? Moved into a new house? Are you going though a divorce or separation? Sometimes even positive changes have unforeseen consequences for us or our kids. Individual therapy can be a great way to process changes using play therapy, EMDR, and mindfulness practices.

THERAPY PROCESS

Individual therapy starts with an assessment process where I will sit down with you and/or your child to get a better understanding of what the concerns are and what else might be happening in you/your child’s life. The more information provided during this process the better I will understand what I can do to help.

Treatment varies depending on the concerns, but I will talk with you at intake about where I think therapy can be beneficial to your family. Families are always changing and it is common for the goals of therapy to change throughout the process.
